Spring is the season for high design. During last week’s webinar we focused on the major design trade shows of the season as Condit Design Director Kevin Trainor walked viewers through the most prominent new trends, technologies, and design inspirations from the New York International Auto Show, Global Shop, and Salone del Mobile.
Whether you’re into cars or not, the NY Auto show proves a Mecca for design not only for the mechanical and aesthetics of vehicles, but also for trade show booth design. Kevin shows numerous booths with similar attributes, the most prominent being the use of straight lines that transition to soft, elongated curves. This sophisticated and modern take on booth design was repeated consistently throughout the show. Interactive trade show booths also seen throughout prove a new, technological focus and trend that is sure to spread to many other industry shows.
On to Global Shop, the trade show for all things retail and retail marketing, Kevin reveals the latest technologies in slatwall, shelving, and paper design. Perhaps most excitingly, we learn the name of the talent behind the whimsical paper installations at Anthropologie stores, Judith Von Hopf.
Last but certainly not least, Kevin takes the viewers on a journey to Milan where we discover the almost infinite nooks and crannies that make up Salone del Mobile, the largest design trade show in the world. We learn that this event is truly marvelous as Milan is transformed for one week every year into the backdrop of what seems like one massive art installation and interactive exhibit rolled into one. From the show itself where home interior designers showcase their most cutting edge, functionally sound, most times beautiful yet often bizarre home goods, to the streets where you can discover anything from pop-up shops to light shows, small parties and gatherings, and free, independent art “experiences”. If there’s one section not to miss from this Spring Show’s Re-cap webinar, the Salone del Mobile review will have you booking flights to Milan and securing your ticket to next year’s show.
