McCormick Place – Exhibitor Overview

McCormick Place is located at 2301 S King Drive just outside of downtown Chicago and along the shore of Lake Michigan. It’s the largest convention center in North America with 2.6 million square feet of exhibit space. The convention center is comprised of four interconnected buildings and a single indoor arena.

Throughout its interior, McCormick Place contains:

173 meeting rooms offering 600,000 square feet of space
4 ballrooms ranging from 21,000 to 100,000 square feet
Assembly seating for 18,000 people
4,192 seat theater (Arie Crown)
3 theaters seating 300 each
Ceiling heights up to 50 feet
Easy access and 6,000 parking spaces

The largest events held at McCormick Place are the Chicago Auto Show, the Inspired Home Show, the National Restaurant Association Show, and IMTS.

The facility, which opened in 1960 and was named after Robert R. McCormick, hosts thousands of events with more than 3 million visitors each year. Much of the original historical architecture was destroyed by a 1967 fire, and the rebuilt facility has undergone numerous renovations and additions in the past five decades.

Traveling to McCormick Place

Today, the McCormick Place campus is accessible via multiple electric railway lines and several bus routes with the four buildings (North, South, West and Lakeside Center) connected by pedestrian promenades and sky bridges.

If you’re coming in from out of state or outside the US, the O’Hare International Airport is between 20 to 35 miles from the convention center, depending on your route. In typical Chicago traffic, you can expect this ride to take about one hour. The other major airport, Midway International Airport, is approximately 10 miles from McCormick Place, and this trip takes about 30 minutes. As in most major cities, taxis, Ubers, Lyfts, and other ride-share services are also available.

There is a wide variety of hotels, Airbnb lodgings and other accommodations within comfortable walking distance to the center, but for drivers, McCormick Place is surrounded by dozens of paid public parking lots, too.
